Determining design options worth trying can be difficult. There is so much to consider when it comes to choosing color, texture, material and even layout. At Signature Homes, our expert team members provide insight on design elements worth the investment. Check out the latest on-trend options for the 2019 custom home scene.
Colors
Inviting shades are the name of the game, according to Style Blueprint. People are ditching white walls in favor of creamier colors to bring warmth to a room. Gray remains popular, but this year black is back along with dark shades of blue. It’s not just accent walls getting all the attention. Accent rooms with a pop of darker shades are getting their time to shine. Also climbing in the ranks among the hottest design trends are kitchen accent walls using counter to ceiling backsplash concepts for room continuity.
Layouts
Open concepts still reign supreme. The National Association of Home Builders surveyed 4,000 home buyers who said they prefer an open floor plan from kitchen to dining room and into the living room, as well as spacious bathroom layouts. Of those surveyed, 67% preferred stainless steel appliances in kitchens and 57% preferred granite or natural stone countertops. In color, white on white is emerging in both kitchen and bathroom designs, with grey on white as a popular alternative. One bathroom trend to keep an eye out for is the emergence of wall-mounted sinks, faucets and toilets.
Exterior
You can never go wrong with a classic exterior, but Houzz points out some new trends transforming the look of homes. Some are less surprising, like the rise in modern farmhouses and outdoor living. Others include larger front porches and grandiose backdoor exits to extensive patios. One intriguing trend combines several materials, like stone and wood, or metal and board-and-batten siding on home exteriors.
Decor
When it comes to custom home decor, House Beautiful has you covered. Bring in a bit of nature with everything from the coffee table to lighting fixtures for an on-trend natural look. Try some bold wallpaper in place of an accent wall and mix and match furniture. Gone are the days of the living room replicating a home furnishing showroom. Leap out of your comfort zone and let eclectic pieces live together.
