The New Year Checklist

As a family owned business with national building experience; we know a thing or two about homes (wink). So we figured we’d put together 5 things we feel every homeowner should consider to start their New Year off on the right foot!

1.) Refresh your kitchen and pantry

Have you made a new year’s resolution to eat healthier foods and prepare more meals at home? Kick things off by thoroughly cleaning your kitchen and pantry. Make a shopping list comprised of healthy foods and place items like fruits and vegetables front and center where you’re more likely to grab them after a long day.

2.) Boosting Light

Getting enough light can make a huge difference in how we feel in winter. Especially in Pennsylvania, the sunshine state… Do what you can to boost light by pulling open window coverings during the day, adding lamps and candles, and lighting a fire in the fireplace. Have you considered decorating with white for a light, bright look? White interiors are great thanks to the shade’s ability to amplify light and cheer up homes during the dreary winter months.

3.) Refresh the kids’ space

Having an appealing indoor space for your children or grandchildren where they can play in winter is essential. Consider adding a new feature to your play-space this month, such as a chalkboard or whiteboard wall, or tumbling mats.

4.) Check and clean up landscaping

Although much of the country has been blessed with unseasonably warm weather. Many regions have experienced storms and snowfall (we’re looking at you, Erie). If you’re in an area where it has been warm, now may be a good time to clean up any debris and repair any possible damage that may have occurred. Once winter really kicks in, be sure to keep an eye out for Ice dams on the roof, downed tree limbs and other miscellaneous damage.

5.) Planning renovations or builds

Have you thought about renovating your kitchen, bathroom, etc? The beginning of the year is a great time to start planning and looking for that new granite countertop, mosaic tiling, or a new range. If renovations aren’t your thing, look for a new home!

The beginning of the year is also a great time to start planning the home of your dreams. When you’re ready, give us a call (we know a guy). We at J.T. Maloney wish you and your family nothing but the best this 2019 and we look forward to another year of making our customers’ dream homes reality.
